A Symphony of Success: Cougar Bands Shine at WSL Festival

The halls of Kansas Wesleyan University were filled with the sound of excellence this week as our very own Cougar Bands took the stage at the WSL Instrumental Music Festival. It was a day defined by precision, passion, and a whole lot of school pride.

We are thrilled to announce that the hard work in the practice rooms has officially paid off. Every single entry from SMS—from our courageous soloists to our full ensembles—brought home the highest possible honors.

The Honor Roll: Straight "1" Ratings

Our students delivered standout performances across the board, earning top marks for their technical skill and musicality:

  • Soloists: Daxton (Saxophone), Syler (French Horn), Maverick (Clarinet), Alyson (Clarinet), and Hadley (Oboe).

  • Trumpet Trio: Aiden, Camden, and Owen.

  • Percussion Ensemble: Elden, Tyla, Hunter, Brayden, and Ridge.

  • Large Ensembles: Both our 7th Grade Band and 8th Grade Band earned "1" ratings for their powerful group performances.

More Than Just a Score

While the "1" ratings are a wonderful validation of their talent, the real victory happened behind the scenes. In just two short months, these musicians have shown incredible dedication to their craft.

Beyond the trophies and certificates, we are most proud of how our students represented SMS. They approached the festival with positive attitudes, a focus on personal growth, and a commitment to supporting one another.

The future of the Cougar music program is looking incredibly bright. Congratulations to all our performers for proving that hard work and a great attitude are the perfect composition for success!
