HealthCareerAwarenessDay
HealthCareerAwarenessDay1

On Wednesday, April 29, eight of our students traded the classroom for the clinic, attending the Health Career Awareness Day at Salina Regional Health Center. It was an immersive look at the fast-paced world of medicine, offering our students a front-row seat to the diverse opportunities available in healthcare.

A Deep Dive into Specialties

The day focused on showing students that "healthcare" means much more than just doctors and nurses. Participants rotated through various departments, meeting professionals in:

  • Rehabilitation Services: Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy.

  • Specialized Medicine: Pediatric Neurology and Pharmacy.

  • Diagnostics: Imaging Technology.

  • Front-line Care: Nursing.

Putting Skills to the Test

This wasn't just a "sit and listen" event. The day was packed with hands-on activities that gave students a real taste of clinical work. Highlights of the experience included:

  • Lifesaving Basics: Practicing the fundamentals of CPR.

  • Modern Wound Care: Simulating the closure of a wound using a specialized vacuum seal.

  • Lab Work: Running pharmaceutical tests to see how medications are managed.

  • High-Tech Imaging: Getting behind the controls of ultrasound machines to practice both sonograms and echocardiograms.

Whether it was watching a heart beat on a monitor or learning the precision required in a pharmacy, our students walked away with a clearer vision of their potential futures in medicine. We are incredibly proud of their engagement and grateful to Salina Regional Health Center for hosting such an inspiring day!
